Back on track

If somebody wonders what happened I am now back after a bit of holiday following The Open Championship. And what an Open that was! The weather is not going to go down in the record books, but Padraig Harrington will as he followed on from Tiger Woods in capturing two Open championships in a row. The R&A CEO Peter Dawson said the R&A likes a breezy Open but even for them I think this was a bit over the top.

By now you will probably know everything about Chris Wood’s fantastic Open week where he came so close to copying Justin Rose’s performance as an amateur the last time around at Royal Birkdale, in 1997. Chris’ phone probably still hasn’t stopped ringing and I know he has had his share of interview practice. Here is one that he did immediately following his 5th place finish;

As this week has reached Friday the English Amateur at Woodhall Spa is coming to the final stages. In what could be the tourn around of the century Chris Paisley last night defeated Eddie Pepperell on the second extra hole to go through to the quarter finals. The standard of golf was absolutely top of the line and with Eddie being 5 up at the turn and a further one under par on the back nine he was still forced by Chris to go to extra holes. When Chris then holed the final put it was two champions leaving the golf course of whom one had gone through to the next stage.

Today’s action at the English Amateur can be followed here.
