Day 2 at Moonah

Another day has passed for the England Team at Moonah Links, in preparation for the Eisenhower Trophy next week. England Captain Jonathan Plaxton continues his daily reports to keep you up to speed with what happens ‘down under’. Today he says:

“Despite not playing the course day 2 was a very productive day with competitive play, alongside practice, entirely on the range and the short game area. Once again the gym was the starting point with all of us participating and a healthy breakfast thereafter. A photo session was then staged with the players sporting the special Eisenhower kit, provided by Oscar Jacobson, and their new shoes, caps and bags courtesy of Titleist.

A skills test was overseen by Dave Ridley and JP with all players highly rated but even higher standards followed when it came to the putting green with putt after putt finding the hole in a tight game of ‘Killer’ involving a local lady golf professional which helped to heighten the player’s focus!

Having earned a rest the team were escorted by minibus to the local town for a brief shopping trip but it was the spectacular waves of The Southern Ocean that most impressed us all. The noise alone was impressive but how the surfers could cope I don’t know!!

Ahead of tomorrows golf the players have had several ‘challenges’ regarding their preparations and the response has been very encouraging.  The relative youthfulness of the England Team is evident but their abilities are undoubtedly upto the Eisenhower challenge. The Moonah hospitality continues to exceed our expectations and I believe the visit has been well worthwhile.

Dave Ridley and I plan to caddy for and challenge the player’s respective approaches to course management and strategy tomorrow during play on The Legends Course. With that in mind it’s bed time over here!
Night.”

In the Women’s event Sweden has come out in a blistering start and is 8 shots clear of Spain in second place. For more on the World Amateur Team Championships tune into the the home page of the International Golf Federation.
