Moving day

The Saturday saw the England Team in Australia move bases from Moonah Links, where practice and preparation took place in anticipation for the official practice days on the two courses at Adelaide, to the venue of the Eisenhower Trophy 2008. Jonathan Plaxton, the England Captain, continues his daily reports:

“Early morning sounds here at Moonah Links consist purely of bird song (mostly noisy magpies) and with the wind in its current direction the noise of crashing waves at least one mile + away!! It was different yesterday when a corporate/team building day involved golf buggies racing around a track!!

Itinerary for today included gym, a hearty home made breakfast of juice + yoghurt, cereal + fruit bowl, baked beans on toast (Heinz!) etc. Then a ‘Plaxton’ designed 9 hole course on the short game area with the winner taking a weeks supply of his favourite treat from the supermarket – see the renewed focus! Luke prevailed narrowly over Dale. Having packed and said our farewells the journey to Melbourne took only half the two hours + we endured on our arrival 4 days ago when a concrete spill caused chaos! No problems at check in and with time for a light lunch we settled down to wait for our flight to Adelaide. Moonah Links proved to be a perfect venue for us with ideal facilities and first class hospitality whilst we all but had the whole place to ourselves! I would certainly recommend Moonah.

A short 1 hour hop to Adelaide and met on arrival by David Basham and the official bus which had us at the hotel within 15 minutes. A quick change saw us at the closing ceremony for the Womens event which Sweden won by 12 shots. A spectacular light and music show with good food and short speeches!! A good start to our Adelaide stay.

Night! JP”

As the action in Adelaide now gradually moves towards the men’s tournament you can keep up with all the official news on the official website of the International Golf Fedration.
