Who said anything about a declining interest?

FBR Open in Phoenix

Just when you wonder if golf is losing out and it looks like the general interest in the game might be declining – the Phoenix Open is there to prove to everybody that if that is what you think, then you just don’t know where to look! Close to 600 000 people come out to watch this event every year and this year was no different. Does this make the Phoenix Open the biggest sporting event in the world in terms of spectators? Quite possibly. Hosted in the Valley of Golf at a time when the area is full of golfers from all corners of the world it is definitely a true crowd pleaser and I do know of a few players that enjoy coming here every year as well.

The PGA Tour might have a marketing budget about the size of a skyscraper but you have to be impressed by the way they constantly find new ways to interact with their customers. Here is a way to keep up with them on Facebook.

Apart from the tours continuing to their next destinations there is some golf played both in Australia and in the US on the amateur schedule. Englishmen Adam Wainright and Charlie Ford have cruised through to the match play stages of the New South Wales Amateur Championships and you should be able to follow their progress here.

England Coach David Ridley made a good effort yesterday to take his England players across the pond to compete in the Jones Cup at Sea Island. After being held up in the snow at Birmingham they eventually made it to the snow in New York and then hopefully on the the nice and warm (?) in Georgia. The tournament starts Friday and you can follow the action here.
