The men in red

Robert Karlsson is back in the winner’s circle on the European Tour. In Quatar it was Robert and the other guy in red, Lee Westwood, that battled it out for the trophy. After having been away for a long time due to a mysterious eye problem, I bet the European no 1 from two years ago is pleased to be back. Is it too bold to say that European golf is looking very strong right now? The Ryder Cup is not too far away and if the start of the year is anything to go by, it could be an interesting week at Celtic Manor.

Overall it is nice to have some golf to report on again. Out in Australia what could be the world’s longest event is underway. What must have been Gary Wolstenholme’s favourite tournament(s); The New South Wales Medal and the New South Wales Amateur. As the two events are linked together the winner and runner up will have been through 72 holes in the medal to qualify within the 32 that go through to the matchplay Championship, followed by another 6 rounds (the final is played over 36 holes) to select the winner. Potentially this could be 180 holes of golf! Imagine what chasing Gary Wolstenholme towards the end of that event would have been like! Gary could be one of the world’s quickest players.

When the Quarter finals take place Tommy Fleetwood is still in the event, flying the English flag. Follow the action by clicking here.

In the traditional season opener in Spain, the Costa Ballena Quadrangular, where an England team mostly consisting of A-squad players meet teams from Finland, Germany and Spain this year’s event was won by Germany. England lost to Germany in the first match and despite wins against both Finland and Spain they could not catch up. If you would like to test your Spanish, click here for full details.
